Enough about concepts, let’s talk construction!
The Deconstructed Texas Lone Star was created using techniques from the Jellied Lone Star Quilt by Terri Ann Swallow. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2015/04/jellied-lone-star-quilt.html
I created the modern bubbles using ColorWorks Concepts - Phase II Color Strata Black Multi Panel by Northcott Fabrics. This was such a vibrant quilt panel and I had a hard time chopping it into circles, but I love piecing perfect circles! There is such a sleek appearance when there are no visible overlapping fabrics (Not that I don’t love appliques, because I really do!).
The texture of the quilt established itself when the layer of first creating a custom edge to edge pantograph of a crumbly brick wall. Then the Graffiti art with various thread painting techniques. (This is probably the first and last quilt where I will ever get to use my Initials as a quilt element! Additionally, there are hidden Easter eggs all over this quilt, the longer you look at it.) And Lastly, I washed and dried this quilt, and the Cotton batting shrunk just enough to give the quilt an aged texture.
I love how this quilt turned out!!!

Modern Graffiti
Just for Fun!
In this quilt, you will see elements of a deconstructed Texas Lone Star, Modern Bubbles, slight Improvisational piecing and Thread Painting.
The inspiration for this quilt was surprisingly diverse, with a culmination of help wanted posters, band artwork, and Graffiti that I saw on coal cars.
When I started to design this quilt, I came up with a story where there was a plain brick wall where someone had painted a mural. As time passed the mural began to fade and eventually someone came around and put posters over the mural. Even more, time passed and others came along and put graffiti over this mess. This could be the story of an aging neighborhood or how we as quilters, take older ideas and build off them, over them, and sometimes on top of them. Wow, I am getting a little deep here!
There are Many Thread Painted elements in this quilt. #Art is Free # Modern | I wanted this quilt to look like an old wall covered in posters and Grafiti | There is no Applique in this quilt. The Circles are pieced. |
