Hoffman Challenge 2017

2017 Hoffman Challenge entry: "A Fist Full of Flowers"

Concepts and Creation: This Quilt was inspired my childhood in Wyoming where "Old West" photographs and paintings run abound. Along with the petite Woman in the quilt, you will notice the two magpies. Traditionally in these styles of images, you would see doves or even crows, but these "fancy crows" as I like to call them frequent my house daily and were the initial inspiration for this quilt. Using the mastery fabric in charcoal and Blooms gave the quilt the perspective of being colourized.

Construction: This quilt used Raw Edge Applique for the main figure and inner border which consisted of Homan Fabrics: Mastery (Charcol & Bloom), 313- Payne's Gray) 92- Slate, Hoffman Digital prints:328-Mulberry,307- Snow, 78-Pewter, 302- Stone, and 55 Charcol) plus a few random fabric from my quilting stash.   Free Motion Quilting (Free Hand) for outer border and scroll work was done on my Babylock Jazz. Bead Work featured around the inner border, trellis work and dress took countless hours to string and place on the quilt. Lastly, the Fabric Dying (The use of Fabric safe coloured pencils and a fabric safe media setter)

A fist full of Flowers
